Timofei Tarasenko set a 33.19 5x5 world record average in the semifinal at Guangzhou Grand Open 2026 on Oct. 6 in Guangzhou, China.
He beat the 33.73 set by Tymon Kolasiński at All Rounders Katowice I 2026 in May. Kolasiński was competing in the same round and recorded a 34.47 average.
Tarasenko’s solves were 35.42, 31.87, (37.15), (30.90) and 32.28. This was his first world record in 5x5.
The result comes just days after Tarasenko set three world records at Beijing Autumn Rivalry: a 1:01.76 6x6 mean, a 1:27.47 7x7 single and a 1:35.93 7x7 mean. Kolasiński won 5x5 at that competition with a 34.11 average, ahead of Tarasenko’s 35.14.
Tarasenko had already come close to the 5x5 record in Kuala Lumpur in August. He entered his final solve with a 33.58 best possible average, but a DNF left him with 34.71.
This time, he finished the average and took the record, adding 5x5 to his world record averages in 6x6, 7x7 and Megaminx.
