Ziyu Wu set a new 7x7 Asian record at Wuhan Golden Autumn 2026, recording a 1:39.32 mean. The result makes him the first Asian solver to achieve a sub-1:40 mean in WCA competition.
Only Max Park and Timofei Tarasenko have recorded faster 7x7 means. Wu’s 1:39.32 moves him past Lim Hung and Seung Hyuk Nahm, taking him from fifth to third in the world.
Wu opened the final with a 1:39.52, followed by a 1:34.31. He closed with a 1:44.13 to secure the record.
The result lowers Lim’s Asian record by 1.33 seconds and cuts 1.77 seconds from Wu’s previous personal best of 1:41.09, set at Guangzhou Big Cubes 2025. His fastest solve in that earlier mean was a 1:34.11, slightly quicker than any of his attempts today. All three solves were under 1:45, compared with a 1:49.52 opening solve in his previous best.
Wu won the final ahead of Anyu Zhang, who finished with a 1:58.39 mean, and Ziyue Peng, who took third with a 2:09.77.
Wu has also set world records in both Megaminx single and average, including a 21.04 single at Quanzhou Summer 2026. At the 2024 Asian Championship, he earned bronze in 6x6 and 7x7 and silver in Megaminx.
