Yiheng Wang Sets 3x3 Average World Record
Chinese star lowers Xuanyi Geng's previous mark by 0.20 seconds and becomes the first speedcuber to average under 3.6 seconds.

Yiheng Wang recorded a 3.51 3x3 average at Hefei Cubing League 3x3 III 2026, setting a new world record. The result moves Wang ahead of Xuanyi Geng’s former world record average of 3.71 from Deqing Small & Special 2026 and establishes a new fastest average in WCA history.
Wang’s final-round average came from solves of 3.68, (4.61), (3.39), 3.41, and 3.45, capping off a remarkable competition in which Wang swept all rounds of 3x3.
Wang’s world record improves Geng’s mark by 0.20 seconds. The average also represents a massive personal best for Wang, lowering his previous PR of 3.90 from Taizhou Open 2025 by 0.39 seconds.
Wang entered the competition with the second-fastest average ever recorded, trailing only Geng’s 3.71 world record. He took first in all rounds of 3x3, with a 4.41, 4.21, and 3.51 average, respectively. His 3.90 personal best had already placed him among the world’s elite solvers, but the new 3.51 pushes the event into entirely new territory.
The previous world record of 3.71 had stood as one of the most impressive achievements in modern speedcubing. By cutting a further two-tenths of a second from the mark, Wang produced one of the largest world-record improvements seen at the top level of 3x3 average competition, 53 days after Xuanyi set the former world record average.
The result strengthens China’s dominance of the event. Wang and Geng now hold the two fastest averages ever recorded, with Wang’s new world record sitting 0.20 seconds ahead of the former benchmark.
The performance at Hefei Cubing League 3x3 III 2026 continues the rapid progression of elite 3x3 solving. Wang’s 3.51 average not only rewrites the record books but also establishes a new standard for speedcubers around the world.
