An investigation into attempts at several WCA competitions between late 2025 and early 2026 has led to an announcement of revised results and a short suspension of a specific competitor.
The competitor is a minor, and the statement asks the community not to identify them. We at Speedcuber’s Digest are respecting that request.
The WCA Integrity Committee’s (WIC) statement says affected attempts received +2 or +4 second penalties or DNFs. Those changes also affected record history. Results without a confirmed violation were left alone.
WIC did not determine whether the competitor’s actions were intentional. It said its decision was based on the number of regulation infractions.
To me, the results changing is worth reporting. Naming a minor when the committee has deliberately withheld their identity is a separate decision, and I don’t think we need to do that to explain what happened. The WIC said the competitor and their family cooperated fully.
Most confirmed violations involved improper timer starts. In a few attempts, the competitor made moves before the timer started or did not fully release the puzzle before stopping it.
The number of violations and how long they continued led the WIC to go beyond penalties for individual attempts. The committee also noted that these violations can make a recorded time shorter than the solve actually took. It described the suspension as short but did not give an end date.
The competitor and their family have the right to appeal the findings and decision. Speedcuber’s Digest has asked the WIC for comment, though the committee said its statement would be its only comment on the case.
