WCA Opens 2026 Community Events Survey
Survey asks cubers about possible new events, lower-tier status, and how future championships could handle expanded event lists.
The World Cube Association has launched a new community survey asking competitors and organizers for feedback on the future of WCA events, including the possible addition of new official events and changes to championship structure.
The survey was shared on the WCA Forum by newly elected WCA Board member Oliver Hexter and focuses heavily on community interest surrounding unofficial events that could eventually become part of the official WCA lineup.
Among the proposed events listed in the survey are:
3x3x3 Team Blind
4x4x4 One-Handed
8x8x8 Cube
Face-Turning Octahedron (FTO)
Ivy Cube
Kilominx
Master Pyraminx
Mini Guildford Relay
Mirror Blocks
Redi Cube
Participants are asked to select up to three events they would most like to see added.
The survey also explores how a potential “lower tier” of events could function within the WCA. Respondents are asked whether those events should have separate championships, stricter qualification requirements, fewer rounds, or rotate in and out of major competitions. Another option suggests avoiding a lower-tier system entirely.
Discussion surrounding new official events has grown significantly in recent years, particularly around FTO and Kilominx, both of which already have active unofficial competition scenes and dedicated rankings.
At the same time, event expansion remains a divisive topic within the community. Supporters argue that adding modern popular puzzles would help the WCA evolve alongside the hobby, while critics point to increasing competition lengths, staffing demands, and organizational complexity.
The survey is currently open through the WCA Forum.
