WCA Elects Four New Board Members
Glib Vedmid, Oliver Hexter, Rubén López de Juan, and Sachin Arvind have been elected as Blake Thompson and Nick Silvestri’s terms come to an end
The World Cube Association has announced that Glib Vedmid, Oliver Hexter, Rubén López de Juan, and Sachin Arvind have been elected to the WCA Board of Directors.
The election was held following the end of Board terms for Blake Thompson and Nick Silvestri. The WCA received applications from five candidates: Callum James Goodyear-Jørgensen, Glib Vedmid, Oliver Hexter, Rubén López de Juan, and Sachin Arvind. Vedmid, Hexter, López de Juan, and Arvind were elected, with the changes effective immediately.
The announcement follows recent leadership changes within the organization. In March, Kerrie Jarman stepped down from the WCA Board after serving as a Director, Vice-Chair, and Chair. Dan Smith has also moved into the WCA’s first full-time paid position as Chief Operating Officer.
Each of the newly elected Board members outlined a different set of priorities in their candidacy documents.

López de Juan currently leads the WCA Major Championship Team and has been involved in the rollout of the new Head-to-Head format. His candidacy emphasized volunteer burnout, trust between the WCA and the community, new competition formats, feedback from top competitors, and a more consistent media strategy.

Vedmid, a Senior Member of the WCA Integrity Committee and founder of the UK Cubing League, centered his application around the themes “Rethink, Renew, Respect.” His stated priorities included Board accountability, clearer WCA identity, volunteer support, and increased communication between the Board, volunteers, and the broader community.

Hexter has served on the WCA Results Team, WCA Regulations Committee, WCA Executive Assistants Team, and as a Delegate. His application focused on responsible stewardship, collaborative management, regulatory clarity, and the Board’s role in enabling change while maintaining the organization’s long-term stability.

Arvind, the Senior Delegate for Asia West and South and founder of SpeedCubers India, focused his application on Regional Organizations, professional operational systems, paid positions, financial discipline, and the WCA’s need for stronger infrastructure as it continues to grow.
Goodyear-Jørgensen, the remaining candidate, previously served on the WCA Board from 2020 to 2023. His application emphasized transparency for volunteers, reducing black-box decision-making, compliance, big-picture planning, and improving the public view of the WCA.
The full public candidate applications are available through the WCA’s public application folder.
Across the applications, several overlapping themes emerged, including volunteer workload, transparency, governance structure, public communication, and the future of major competitions.
