Yize Dong set a personal best 4.07 3x3 average, ranked third in the world, and a 3.15 single, ranked fifth, in the first round of Guangzhou Grand Open 2026 on October 5 in Guangzhou, China.

Dong improved his personal best average by 0.37 seconds, beating the 4.44 he set at Guangzhou GraDUAL 3x3 I 2026 in August. The result moves him from ninth in the world to third.
His single improved by 0.67 seconds, down from the 3.82 he set at the same competition. That moves him from 28th to fifth.

Dong, believed to be seven years old, first competed in 2023. His first sub-5 average came in April, a 4.95 at Xi’an Cherry Blossom 2026. He lowered it to 4.91 in the next round. Six months later, his new best is 0.88 seconds faster than that first sub-5 average.
Both personal bests came on the opening day of the two-day competition, where eight of the world’s top ten 3x3 solvers by average are competing, including Poland’s Tymon Kolasiński. Three more 3x3 rounds are scheduled for Tuesday, October 6.
Following the recent successes of Yi Shen and Yunzhi Lian, Dong is another young Chinese competitor to watch ahead of the 2027 World Championship. If his improvement continues, he could be a contender for the gold.
