World Records, Continental Records, and a Head-to-Head Comeback Across a Busy Weekend

Records continued to fall across the WCA calendar this weekend, with major results in 6x6, 7x7, 5x5, and 3x3 Blindfolded. Lim Hung left UniKL MIAT Cube Open 2026 with two world records, Timofei Tarasenko added another major big-cube weekend, Yifan Wang became the third person to record a sub-13 3x3 Blindfolded single, and 3x3 in Madison 2026 delivered one of the most notable head-to-head finals so far.
Welcome back to the Speedcuber’s Digest Weekend Wrap, where we look at the most significant results and storylines from this past weekend.
Lim Hung - 6x6 WR Mean and 7x7 WR Single
Lim Hung had one of the biggest weekends of his career at UniKL MIAT Cube Open 2026, setting world records in both 6x6 mean and 7x7 single.
In 7x7, Lim recorded a 1:32.92 single in the second round, improving on Max Park’s previous world record of 1:33.48 from Nub Open Trabuco Hills Fall 2025. His full second-round results were 1:32.92, 1:50.69, and 1:38.35, producing a 1:40.65 mean that also set a new Asian record.
Lim then added a 6x6 world record mean at the same competition, recording a 1:04.94 with solves of 1:08.11, 1:03.68, and 1:03.04. The result improved on Park’s previous world record mean of 1:05.04, also set at Nub Open Trabuco Hills Fall 2025.
The two records are Lim’s first big-cube world records and the second and third world records of his career, following his 3x3 With Feet average world record.
Timofei Tarasenko - 7x7 ER Mean and 5x5 WR2 Average
Timofei Tarasenko also had a major big-cube weekend at Bravo BKK Cube Open 2026, setting a European record in 7x7 mean and moving to second in the world for 5x5 average.
In 7x7, Tarasenko recorded a 1:44.00 mean with solves of 1:41.72, 1:47.50, and 1:42.79. The result improved on Tymon Kolasiński’s previous European record of 1:44.32 and moved Tarasenko to seventh in the world for 7x7 mean.
Tarasenko also recorded a 34.55 5x5 average, setting a Russian national record and moving to second in the world behind Kolasiński’s 33.73 world record average. His average came from solves of 36.29, (37.91), (30.79), 31.78, and 35.59. The 30.79 solve also set a new Russian national record single.
The result moved Tarasenko ahead of Max Park in both 5x5 single and average, placing him second in the world in both rankings behind Kolasiński.

Yifan Wang - 12.71 3BLD AsR Single
Yifan Wang recorded a 12.71 3x3 Blindfolded single at Please Be Quiet Hefei 2026, setting a new Asian record and moving to third in the world.
The result makes Wang the third person to record a sub-13 single in the event, joining Charlie Eggins and Tommy Cherry. Eggins currently holds the world record at 11.67, while Cherry ranks second with 12.00.
The 12.71 also moved Wang back to No. 1 in Asia, passing Phillip Maxwell’s 13.81 from Indonesian Championship 2025. Wang previously held the Asian record with a 14.06 single at Cube Camp in Nakhon Nayok 2024, meaning his new result improved that mark by 1.35 seconds.
Wang’s final-round results were (12.71), (DNF), 20.48, 16.94, and 17.93, giving him an 18.45 average and the event win.
Zeke Mackay - 3x3 in Madison Head-to-Head Winner
Zeke Mackay won the 3x3 final at 3x3 in Madison 2026, completing a comeback over Ryan Pilat in the best-of-five head-to-head format.
Pilat entered the head-to-head stage after qualifying second in the third round with a 5.78 average, behind Luke Garrett’s 5.37. Mackay qualified fourth with a 6.53 average.
In the final, Pilat won the first two sets before appearing to intentionally drop Set 3. Mackay then won the next two sets to take the match 3-2 and win the competition.
After the win, Mackay said on the WCA stream that he was “exhausted.” He also said he wanted to speak with Pilat after the match, noting that Pilat may not have realized how quickly the match could snowball once Mackay got back into it.
The result came one week after Pilat discussed intentionally extending a previous head-to-head match at DFW Cubing Spring 2026 in an interview with Speedcuber’s Digest. At 3x3 in Madison, the extended match left the door open for Mackay, who completed the comeback in the final two sets.
