The Weekend Wrap: June 19-21, 2026
A new 3x3 benchmark, Europe’s first sub-0.97 2x2 average, and one of the deepest Fewest Moves record watches in recent memory led the weekend across speedcubing.
Yiheng Wang shattered the 3x3 average world record, Teodor Zajder broke Europe’s 2x2 barrier, and a replacement scramble ended a historic FMC World record chase.
Welcome back to the Speedcuber’s Digest Weekend Wrap, where we look at the most significant results and storylines from this past weekend.
Yiheng Wang - 3.51 3x3 Average World Record
Yiheng Wang recorded a 3.51 3x3 average at Hefei Cubing League 3x3 III 2026, setting a new world record and becoming the first speedcuber to officially average under 3.6 seconds.
Wang’s final-round solves were 3.68, (4.61), (3.39), 3.41, and 3.45. The result lowered Xuanyi Geng’s previous world record of 3.71 by 0.20 seconds.
The average was also a major personal best for Wang, improving his previous mark of 3.90 by 0.39 seconds.
Wang entered the competition as the reigning 3x3 world champion and swept all three rounds of the event. He opened with a 4.41 average, followed with a 4.21, before producing the world record in the final.
The result gives Wang and Geng the two fastest official 3x3 averages in history and continues China’s hold on the top of the event.
Teodor Zajder - 0.96 European Record 2x2 Average
Teodor Zajder recorded a 0.96 2x2 average at Oslo Open 2026, setting a new European record and becoming the first European competitor to average below 0.97 seconds.
Zajder’s final-round solves were 1.01, (0.66), 0.89, 0.97, and (1.99). The result improved the previous continental record of 0.97, which had been shared by Zajder and Antonie Paterakis.
Zajder had already recorded two separate 0.97 averages before breaking through in Oslo. His latest result gave him sole possession of the European record.
He won the final ahead of Tymon Kolasiński, who finished second with a 1.49 average, and Stefan Zajder, who placed third with a 1.51.
FMC World 2026 - Replacement Scramble Ends Record Chase
FMC World 2026 produced one of the deepest Fewest Moves world-record chases in recent memory, with 15 competitors entering the third attempt one 19-move solution away from tying Brian Johnson’s 19.00 world record mean.
No competitor on world-record pace recorded fewer than 22 moves on the final attempt, leaving Johnson’s record intact.
The final scramble came under unusual circumstances. Organizers announced that the intended third scramble had accidentally been used at another competition and instructed delegates across the 56-venue event to use Extra Set Scramble 1 instead.
Baiqiang Dong, Enrico Tenuti, and Wong Chong Wen finished tied for first with 20.00 means after each recording attempts of 19, 19, and 22 moves.
Dong and Tenuti set national record means, while Brayan Alexander Sandoval Camacho recorded a 21.33 continental record mean for Colombia.
Although the world record survived, having 15 competitors enter the final attempt within one solve of tying it showed the growing depth at the top of Fewest Moves and gave FMC World 2026 one of the weekend’s most unusual finishes.
