Luke Griesser has already beaten Dylan Miller in a Premier Speedcubing League final. This Sunday in Seattle, he gets another chance to win a qualifier with Dylan in the field, this time with an all-expenses-paid trip to Las Vegas on the line.
There is plenty to follow elsewhere this weekend, too. Denmark crowns its national champions, Ohio and Alabama hold their state championships, and Yiheng Wang and Xuanyi Geng are both competing in Wuhan.
Welcome back to the Speedcuber’s Digest Weekend Preview, where we look ahead at the potential storylines going into the weekend.
Griesser and Sameer Get Another Chance in Seattle
Premier Speedcubing League Seattle takes place September 13, with Dylan Miller, Luke Griesser and Sameer Aggarwal leading the field.
Dylan already has his Vegas invitation. He won the first Seattle stop in May, beating Sameer 2-1 in their first meeting and 3-0 in the grand final.
Sameer will be looking to change that result.
Griesser has a different reason to like his chances: he beat Dylan in the PSL Michigan final in Port Huron to end last season and claim his first PSL victory.
Griesser has also been producing some of the best WCA results of his career. Last month, he won Mid-Atlantic Warm-Up with a 3.98 single and 5.43 average.
The qualifier winner receives an all-expenses-paid trip to the season-ending championship. For Griesser and Sameer, that is the main prize. For Dylan, it is a chance to win Seattle again and keep another competitor from claiming its automatic invitation.
Rasmus Defends His Danish Title
Rasmus Stub Detlefsen won last year’s Danish Championship with a 7.45 average, beating Martin Vædele Egdal by 0.15 seconds.
Both return for Danish Championship 2026, September 11-13 in Børkop.
Martin is the fastest Danish entrant by personal-best average at 5.98, followed by Rasmus at 6.46 and Daniel Vædele Egdal at 6.89. Last year’s final is a useful reminder that a faster PB does not guarantee a title.
There is also Emanuel Schelin, who matches Martin’s 5.98 at the top of the overall field. The Swedish competitor adds another contender for the competition win alongside the Danish title race.
Martin has a busy weekend beyond 3x3. He leads the registered field by best average in 4x4 through 7x7, one-handed, 3x3 Blindfolded and Megaminx.
Pfeifer and Wood Lead the Ohio Title Race
Ohio Championship 2026 runs September 11-13 at the Ohio Union in Columbus, with Luke Garrett and Brian Johnson leading the overall 3x3 field.
Garrett brings a 4.88 best average, ahead of Johnson’s 5.20 and Zeke Mackay’s 5.93. But the Ohio title race starts further down the psych sheet.
Jack Pfeifer ranks first among Ohio entrants at 6.15, followed by Nolan Wood at 6.25. Just a tenth separates their best averages.
Darshan Bhavanasi follows at 6.85, with Jacob Dyland Bennett at 6.90.
Nolan finished third overall at last year’s championship with a 6.85 average, behind Luke Garrett and Eli Parker.
There are several reasons to follow the other events.
Pfeifer leads 5x5, 6x6 and 7x7, while Johnson is the top Square-1 seed with 5.25. Sujan Feist brings a 0.86 world record average to 2x2, a mark he has achieved twice!
Pyraminx is especially close at the top: Jeriyah Griffin has a 1.38 best average, just ahead of Milan Vincent Andric at 1.40. Milan recently won Pyraminx at Euros 2026. Simon Kellum follows at 1.53 and also leads the Skewb field.
Rowan Stough Leads Alabama’s Title Race
Alabama Championship 2026 takes place September 12-13 in Tuscaloosa. This is the state’s second championship, with titles restricted to Alabama residents.
Jared Stinson returns as the defending 3x3 state champion. He won the inaugural title in 2024 with a 9.46 average, ahead of Kevin Min’s 9.76 and Rowan Stough’s 10.32. Rowan now enters as the fastest Alabama competitor on the psych sheet.
Matias Marcantoni-Nunez and Nicolás Sánchez lead the overall 3x3 field with 5.99 and 6.06 best averages. Rowan Stough is next at 7.09.
Behind Rowan in the state-title race are Jared Stinson at 7.47 and Sam Cooperman at 7.53.
Kevin Min and Ishmael Glover are next at 7.63 and 7.65.
The bigger cubes bring together Jared and Katie Hull. Jared leads the 5x5 and 7x7 psych sheets, while Katie leads 6x6. Their 5x5 bests are particularly close: 51.59 for Jared and 51.70 for Katie.
Yiheng and Xuanyi Meet Again in Wuhan
Wuhan Crimson Autumn 2026 takes place September 13, with Yiheng Wang and Xuanyi Geng at the top of the 3x3 psych sheet.
They gave us one of last month’s biggest matches in the Monkey League final in New York. Xuanyi led 4-1 before Yiheng came back to win his second consecutive title.
This weekend puts them back in the same WCA field, alongside Yize Dong, Yi Shen, Qixian Cao and Yunzhi Lian.
Yiheng and Xuanyi are also both entered in one-handed. Yiheng’s recent 5.85 single and 9.29 average give us another event to follow while we wait to see how the 3x3 final plays out.
