Matthew Liong Wins Megaminx at NAC 2026, Nicolas Niang Wins North American Title
A 27.19 National Record single helps Liong secure the overall title, while Nicolas Niang claims the North American Championship.

Matthew Liong delivered the top Megaminx performance of NAC 2026, winning the final with a 30.03 average and closing the round with a 27.19 Indonesian National Record single.
The storyline shifted throughout the round. Alexei Sinyavin was leading after three solves despite a DNF on solve two, while favorite Nicolas Naing was pacing fifth and still fighting his way back into title contention.
Final Podium
🥇 Matthew Liong (Indonesia) - 30.03 Average, 27.19 NR Single
🥈 Nicolas Niang (United States) - 31.87 Average
🥉 Zeke Mackay (United States) - 32.01 Average
North American Championship Podium
🥇 Nicolas Niang (United States) - 31.87 Average
🥈 Zeke Mackay (United States) - 32.01 Average
🥉 Alexei Sinyavin (United States) - 32.02 Average
After four solves, Liong moved into the top spot and put himself in position to win. On the final solve, Brendan Lee finished first with a 32.52, ending with a 32.13 average for fifth place. Naing answered with a 31.45 to lock in a 31.87 average, moving into second overall and securing the North American Championship.
Zeke Mackay entered his last solve with a large group of friends watching nervously. He started smoothly, but a wrong last-layer algorithm led to a 32.38. It was still enough to hold third place by just 0.01 over Sinyavin, who finished fourth with a 32.02 average.
Liong then capped off the round in style. Rather than stumbling on the final solve, he delivered the best solve of the final, a 27.19 NR single, sealing the overall win and one of the most memorable Megaminx moments of the championship. He could have finished with a DNF on his fifth solve and still won the event.
Because Liong represents Indonesia, he was not eligible to be North American Champion. That title went to Naing, who finished second overall as the top eligible competitor.
