David Epstein Sets 9.26 Australian One-Handed Average Record
Epstein lowered his personal best by 0.85 seconds with a 9.26 average at Australian Nationals 2026.
David Epstein delivered one of the first major performances of Australian Nationals 2026, setting a new Australian National Record average in 3x3 One-Handed.
Epstein recorded an average of 9.26 seconds in the second round, with solves of (8.10), 9.40, 8.49, (10.06), and 9.90. The result improved his previous personal best of 10.11 by 0.85 seconds, nearly a full second.
The performance also broke Elijah La Porte’s previous Australian record of 9.37, set at Australian Nationals 2025. Epstein now moves ahead of La Porte, Feliks Zemdegs, Bryan Eng, and Riley Dexter for the fastest official One-Handed average by an Australian competitor.
His 9.26 also ranks third in Oceania, behind New Zealand’s Dwyane Ramos at 8.36 and Jasper Murray at 9.10.
Epstein entered the competition with extensive championship experience, including multiple Australian national titles and an Oceania championship in Fewest Moves. His latest accomplishment adds a One-Handed national record to an already versatile competitive résumé.
