Caio Hideaki Sato broke the South American 4x4 average record Saturday with a 23.61 in the first round of Presidente Prudente Open 2026 in Brazil.
Sato entered the weekend ranked third on the continent with a 24.28. He cut 0.67 seconds from that mark, passing Theo Goluboff’s 24.03 and Claudio Matias Cancino Bruna’s record of 23.70 to take the top spot.
His times were (26.94), 22.72, (20.97), 26.79, 21.31.
Sato needed a final solve below 21.58 to break the record.
He delivered a 21.31, taking it by nine hundredths of a second.
The result also puts a less popular 4x4 method in the spotlight.
Sato uses Redux cross, an uncommon method for someone at his speed.
Sato solves all six centers first. He then pairs his cross edges and solves the cross before using free-slice edge pairing to finish the remaining edges.
Sato’s success with different methods extends to one-handed, where he uses Roux. He already holds the South American averages for both 3x3 at 5.28 and one-handed at 8.81. Saturday’s 23.61 adds 4x4 to that list.
