Brian Johnson Sets Square-1 World Record Single
Johnson records a 2.85 Square-1 single at Evanston Qualifier 2026, then finishes the round with a 5.34 PR average that ranks seventh in the world.

Brian Johnson set a new Square-1 world record single at Evanston Qualifier 2026, recording a 2.85 on the first solve of the round.
Johnson then completed the average with solves of (2.85), 4.39, (9.36), 6.40, and 5.23, giving him a 5.34 average. The average was also a personal best and moves him to seventh in the world for Square-1 average.

The result adds another world record to Johnson’s recent run. Earlier this year, he set the 3x3 Fewest Moves world record mean with a 19.00 at Evanston FMC Spring 2026, also held at Northwestern University’s Technological Institute in Evanston, Illinois.
Johnson has now set world records in two different events in Evanston this year, adding Square-1 single to his earlier Fewest Moves mean record.
