Arhaan Sareen Becomes First Canadian to Break 42 in 5x5 Average
Sareen records a 41.54 average at CubingUSA Great Lakes Championship 2026, becoming the first Canadian to break 42 seconds in 5x5.
Arhaan Sareen became the first Canadian speedcuber to record a sub-42 5x5 average, finishing with a 41.54 national record average in the 5x5 Final at CubingUSA Great Lakes Championship 2026.
Sareen’s final-round results were (47.28), (38.59), 43.24, 41.01, and 40.36, giving him a 41.54 average and a new Canadian national record. The result lowered the previous Canadian record of 42.11, set by Bill Wang at Gros Jouets à Montréal 2026, by 0.57 seconds.
The average came down to the final solve. With counting times of 43.24 and 41.01 already on the board, Sareen needed one more strong solve to lower the Canadian record. His 40.36 secured the 41.54 average and completed Canada’s first sub-42 5x5 result.
The record comes exactly six weeks after Wang set the previous Canadian record, making it one of the shortest-lived Canadian national records in the event’s history.
Sareen, from the Greater Toronto Area, has established himself as one of Canada’s leading big-cube competitors in recent years. The 41.54 average gives Canada its first official sub-42 result and places Sareen firmly among the North America’s top 5x5 solvers.
